This book draws from narratives spanning many centuries, such as Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, penned between 1308 and 1320. Virgil, who guided Dante through Hell, is depicted here by a small mouse or its friends—a chicken, a cow, a heron, or a rabbit—who also accompany us on a journey through Meyer’s photographic images. These images illustrate various aphorisms and, like Aesop’s Fables (6th century BC), invite us to reflect on contemporary life. Thus, past and future intertwine in a dynamic and constantly transforming present, using photography as a form of expression.
