The Perfection of Disaster

32 black-and-white digital photographs by Pedro Meyer, taken in downtown Mexico City. The images have been intervened by the artist. In the words of Martín Solares, who writes the prologue, the photographer, “with The Perfection of Disaster, delivers a subtle, understated critique, like that of a surrealist collage, like someone sipping coffee who raises an eyebrow upon seeing the crowd advance towards conflict.” Meyer, drawing from the reality of a scene and his extensive knowledge of technological possibilities, creates highly expressive images. They are not reality, yet they are reality. The elaboration upon the captured moment deepens the image, acquiring a new meaning that, at first glance, demands another level of interpretation.
