In 1979, alongside the steel complex project in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, the photographic essay “Graphic Testimony of Ciudad Lázaro Cárdenas” was developed, in which Pedro Meyer and other photographers captured various aspects of life in the region. With a curious and empathetic gaze, Meyer offers a visual testimony that reveals the essence of the environment, enriched with sarcastic touches that grant it a unique artistic depth.
This book includes texts by Gabriela Olmedo and Patricia Vega, who explore the city’s evolution from its colonial past to its industrial transformation, highlighting the contradictions between development and inequality. From the more than two thousand photographs taken, over 170 were selected for this project.
