Discover and document one of Mexico’s most vibrant, colorful, and festive traditions (declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO) through this theoretical-practical workshop taught by photographer Ernesto Ramírez. The central objective is to employ journalistic-documentary techniques to capture this ritual that venerates our faithful departed in various cemeteries across our city.
PhD student, Master in Documentary Film, and Bachelor in Journalism, all from UNAM; member of the National System of Art Creators (2014-2017 and 2021-2024); and photojournalist for more than three decades in various newspapers and magazines, including: La Jornada, Milenio Semanal and Milenio Diario, El Independiente, El Universal, El Centro, Excélsior, and 24 Horas. Additionally, his work has been published in Artes de México, Tierra Adentro, Cuartoscuro, Chilango, Expansión, México Desconocido, Gatopardo (Colombia), and Eseté (Spain). His teachers have included Mary Ellen Mark, Mariana Yampolsky, Graciela Iturbide, Cristina García Rodero, and Pedro Meyer, among others. He has received several awards, such as the National Cultural Journalism Award in 2006 for his documentary essay Urban Archaeology. He has published three books: Vidas en Tránsito (2011), Arqueología Urbana (2013), and Ernesto Ramírez (2016). In recent years, he has developed five major bodies of work: Central de Abastos, Urban Archaeology, Close to Heaven, Exitocina, and Iztapalópolis. He currently coordinates diploma courses and teaches workshops, and also directs “Ralistudio,” an Audiovisual Creation Laboratory.
