With the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution in July 1979, one of the last hopes of changing the world for the generation of the 1960s and 1970s is rekindled. Through the narrative magic of a number of personal diaries, we will learn about the experience of people who, disillusioned by Spain’s democratic transition, travelled to Nicaragua in search of their utopia. Meanwhile, many Nicaraguans had dreamed of this revolution, from guerrilla warfare in the mountains to rebellion in the cities. The moment of collective “ecstasy” experienced during the first two years of the revolution begins to crack with the start of the Contra war financed by the United States, which takes advantage of the Sandinista leaders’ own mistakes. The film then jumps forward 25 years to show the consequences of that utopia for the next generation, as if they were fragments of a broken mirror of the revolution.
